Want to Live Life to the Fullest? Start By Paying Attention to Your Mind and Body

September 27, 2022

It’s never too late to break bad habits and begin to take steps for a healthier lifestyle. True, the long-term effects of bad health habits are cumulative. On the other hand, each day with healthier lifestyle choices is one more step towards improved health and wellness. There's are many ways we can improve our longevity – and, even more important, quality of life.

Healthy Lifestyle Changes

Here are some habits worth implementing to give yourself the best chance at a longer, happier life.

A Healthy BMI - Body mass index is a measurement of body fat that assesses a person's weight category and potential risk for health issues. According to a recent study, maintaining a healthy BMI can has been linked with a lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease and cancer and lengthen your life by more than a decade. Regular physical activity and eating healthy foods can help you with this goal.

Proper Nutrition - Eating more plant-based foods provides a great source of antioxidants. Oxidation is a sign of stress in our system and can lead to changes in the buildup of plaque in the arteries and can accelerate aging.

Limiting the amount of red and processed meats and eating more fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains and nuts can have a significant improvement for your health.

At mealtime, at least half your plate should consist of fruits and vegetables. Also, what's important is not only what's on the food, but how you prepare it. If you can opt for baking and broiling instead of frying, your health will thank you.

Drink Less - People have associated drinking alcohol with a healthier heart for some time now. However, heavy alcohol intake can be a direct toxin to the heart and result in heart failure.

Alcohol – yes, even wine - also raises blood sugar levels and causes weight gain. Reducing your alcohol consumption can add several years to your life by lowering your risk for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and other chronic diseases.

Quit Smoking - You’ve heard it time and again, but it bears repeating: Smoking is a major risk factor that increases the likelihood of multiple cancers as well as the risk of heart disease, stroke and other conditions that shorten people's lives.

If you're a habitual smoker, we know it’s challenging to quit, Cigarettes are highly addictive. But the chance to lengthen your life is certainly worth it.
